His Kidnapper’s Shoes – Maggie James
Book Reviews / 13 January 2018

His Kidnapper’s Shoes is the first book I’ve read by Maggie James. This was a little gem of a book. It’s shortish, so it’s an easy read (or listen in my case!). But don’t let that fool you, there’s a lot of story packed into those 200-some-odd pages.

26-year-old Daniel has never truly bonded with his mother the way most kids have. Then, he and his stepfather just outright did not get along. (He refers to him as asshole many times throughout the book).

He has a lot of visions of two other kind women, which he sometimes thinks is in his head, sometimes thinks is reality. But when he asks his mother Laura merely says, “Honey, that’s just a dream.” But is it?

The Drowned Girls – Loreth Anne White
Book Reviews / 16 December 2017

Loreth Anne White has done it again with The Drowned Girls. WOW. She is the queen of backstories and romantic thrillers. The Drowned Girls isn’t even a mystery; it’s an actual thriller. Really and for true. And don’t let the length of the book fool you, it will keep you ensnared. I promise.

Angie Pallorino is a sex-crimes detective, vying for a spot in homicide investigations. In the past, Angie has lost a partner, which she still holds herself responsible. Her vice? Anonymous sex with men she meets at a club.

The Killer Inside – Kerry Wilkinson
Book Reviews / 6 December 2017

Previously released as “Locked In” published by Pan Macmillan, The Killer Inside by Kerry Wilkinson was re-released by Bookouture in 2016.

The Killer Inside is the first book in the Jessica Daniel series. I am committed to this series, as I love Kerry Wilkonson and his books.  The Killer Inside was no exception.

While it took me a while to read it (holidays, work, everything gets in the way!!), I was surprised to see how long it was after I’d finished. On my Kindle, I just see the percentage complete. But apparently, it’s 400 pages! Who knew? Not this girl!  This good read flew by!

Duplicity – Sibel Hodge
Book Reviews / 13 November 2017

Duplicity is my first book by Sibel Hodge, and what an excellent choice I made if I don’t say so myself.

Max and Alyssa are newlyweds, when just a month after their wedding, someone kills Max in their home. Alyssa escapes by way of the bathroom window and runs to her neighbor’s house nekkid and afraid.

Intertwined with Max and Alyssa’s plot is a story about the “other one.” A girl who has grown up on a farm with an abusive father and a submissive mother.

The Lucky Ones – Mark Edwards
Book Reviews / 13 October 2017

In Mark Edwards’ The Lucky Ones, he ventures into a detective/crime thriller, which I’ve never read by him before. Bravo, I think he did a fantabulous job!

Detective Imogen Evans is working on a case, where bodies are showing up dead, seemingly in peaceful bliss, complete with smiles on their faces. This serial killer has been dubbed, “The Viper.”

Ben, my book boyfriend.

In a separate storyline, Ben Hofland’s life is a little bit out of control. He’s undergoing a painful divorce, kids are bullying his son Ollie, he’s desperate for work, and his neighbors are horrible. Woah… that’s a lot for a guy to handle.

Known – Kendra Elliot
Book Reviews / 28 September 2017

Welcome back to Chris from Buried, #3. Chris is at his remote cabin in the Cascade Mountains during a brutal snowstorm. During his stay, he discovers Gianna and her 16-year-old daughter, Violet, huddled in an SUV. Having escaped from the harrowing ordeal of their vacation rental cabin burning down, Violet is found nursing her mother, who was violently ill all night.

As we know from Buried, Chris knows what burnt flesh smells like. And there was a strong odor of burnt flesh in that cabin. Low and behold, a charred body was found.

Alone – Kendra Elliot
Book Reviews / 21 September 2017

Alone by Kendra Elliot is the 4th book in the Bone Secrets Series.

Alone is yet another twisty tale created by the wonderful writer, Kendra Elliot.

Dark, rainy night. Six Beautiful Girls. In beautiful white dresses. Arranged in a perfect circle, like a beautiful daisy. All left for dead. But one girl. She is left fighting for her life. What an eerie image the layout of these girls conjured.

Buried – Kendra Elliot
Book Reviews / 15 September 2017

The Bone Secrets series, if you haven’t read any of them, are a series of books that don’t follow the same main characters book to book. Bit characters from the first book are main characters in the second, and so on. Book by book, we learn more about the characters, as each has their own story!

So, to that end, Michael Brody was a side character in Hidden, Book 1. As a jealous brat, he was endearing. You could feel the love he had for Lacey Campbell, and the hurt when he saw her with Jack Harper. When he showed up in Buried, as a primary character, I cheered him on as he found love.

Chilled – Kendra Elliot
Book Reviews / 6 September 2017

Brrrrr, chilled indeed. That’s what happens when a search and rescue team ventures into the snowy, icy Cascade Mountains to seek out a downed airplane.

Alex Kinton, a former U.S. Marshal, joins Thomas, Jim, Ryan, and Brynn on a search and rescue for a missing aircraft carrying two pilots, another U.S. Marshal, and serial killer Darren Besand.

Hidden – Kendra Elliot
Book Reviews / 27 August 2017

Hidden by Kendra Elliot is the first book in the Bone Secrets series. There’s no better way to start off a series than with a 5-star rated book. Bravo!

There is so much going on in Hidden, that I don’t even know where to start. That’s a good thing though.
