The Killer Inside by Kerry Wilkinson
Previously released as “Locked In” published by Pan Macmillan, The Killer Inside by Kerry Wilkinson was re-released by Bookouture in 2016.
The Killer Inside is the first book in the Jessica Daniel series. I am committed to this series, as I love Kerry Wilkonson and his books. The Killer Inside was no exception.
While it took me a while to read it (holidays, work, everything gets in the way!!), I was surprised to see how long it was after I’d finished. On my Kindle, I just see the percentage complete. But apparently, it’s 400 pages! Who knew? Not this girl! This good read flew by!
Detective Sargent Jessica Daniels is heading up the investigation into the “Houdini” killer. “Houdini’s” murder victims are left in their homes with all of the windows and doors locked with no signs of forced entry. A serial killer whodunit is right up my alley.
I enjoyed Jessica’s character. Jessica is in her early 30’s, living with her roommate and best friend, Caroline. Caroline now has a boyfriend, and Jessica is feeling lonely. In this regard, she is sweet and vulnerable. Whereas on the job, she is fierce and intelligent. I love cops who have a softer side.
I also enjoyed the character of Garry. Garry is a crime reporter who is trying to make his way. He has obtained Jessica’s cell phone number and has latched himself onto her looking for story leads. For an annoying reporter, he’s endearing.
Finally, I love Bookouture’s books, and I love Kerry Wilkinson’s writing, so I am glad to see they teamed up to re-release some of Kerry’s older books. I am so excited about this, and I can’t wait to dive into more of Kerry’s books.
The Killer Inside is 5-stars from me.
